La Suvera, the newest addition to the Pellicano Hotels family, is a luxurious sanctuary nestled in the enchanting Tuscan hills. This exceptional property, just a 30-minute drive from Siena, is steeped in history and charm and offers a glimpse into Tuscany’s rich heritage while providing a secluded escape in the countryside.
La Suvera’s origins date back to the 12th century when it served as a military fortress in the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance, the property was given to Pope Julius II as a gift by the city of Siena, and he entrusted Baldassare Peruzzi, master architect of the era, with the role of transforming it from a stone fortress to an immaculate villa. This ‘rebirth’ reflected the artistic and cultural wave sweeping through Italy at the time, and we still see Peruzzi’s original architecture in many elements of La Suvera today.
As we prepare for its grand reopening, Pellicano Hotels will honour the villa’s storied past with a thoughtful restoration led by CEO & Creative Director Marie-Louise Sciò. The design will retain La Suvera’s distinctive character, celebrating its curated antiques, its ‘giardini a l’Italiana’, while adding modern comforts and luxury. Guests can look forward to approximately 60 elegantly restored rooms and suites, a spa, delectable dining, a pool, two bars, versatile spaces for events and a beautiful, consecrated church.
Infused with our signature Pellicano touch—where the location speaks for itself—La Suvera promises to be an unforgettable retreat, embracing the timeless allure of Tuscany.
